Livestock Show regulations

  • BEEF

    Superintendent: Fayne Hamilton


    PEE-WEE SHOW REGULATIONS:


    1. Anyone who has not passed their 8th birthday as of Jan 1, 2026 is eligible to show. Calf can be of any breed, and either steer, bull or heifer. The same exhibitor may not show the same animal in the pee-wee calf and 4-H, FFA beef show. 
    2. Calf needs to be broke to lead. Calf must be born between January 1, 2026 and June 1, 2026. Calves will all show together unless numbers require dividing the class.
    3. Show will be judged on: showmanship, health and grooming of calf, quality of the calf, and knowledge of youth about his or her project.
    4. Pee-wee calves will be allowed to come in on Sunday, September 6, 2026. They will be released after all the shows are completed on Sunday.
    5. The pee-wee calf class will not receive points for prize money.

    BEEF CATTLE REGULATIONS:


    1. All market calves exhibited must be steers or heifers calved after January 1, 2025. Age will be checked.
    2. All calves to be eligible to compete in the market class must have been owned by the exhibitor since March 1st, 2026.
    3. All breeding animals shown must be registered and must be a part of the exhibitor’s project program.
    4. Market beef will be weighed and tagged Saturday, September 5th at 2:00PM. Market beef animals will be divided into classes by weight per Superintendents’.
    5. All bulls must be double tied in the stall area. All Jr. Livestock exhibitors are eligible to show in all bull classes. 
    6. No bulls are allowed in showmanship classes. 
    7. Grooming chutes allowed in barns only if space permits, decision will be Superintendents’.
    8. Coloring and grooming practices follow Missouri State Fair Guidelines, unless otherwise announced.

    10. Limit of 2 breeding animals per exhibitor in a class.
    11. No bulls born before January 1, 2024
    12. Champion Market Steer and Champion Market Heifer will compete for the Grand Champion Market Beef. 
    13. Class codes will be the same for all breeds except a letter will be added to each class to designate the breed (as designated in the breed codes.) Example: Red Angus Jr. Heifer Class will be class RA132.
    14. Whatever class you registered in at registration is final.
    15. Crossbred heifers will show by weight - will weigh in at the same time as the steers.
    16. There must be 5 in a breed to establish a new class.
    17. Cattle without papers will be shown as crossbred.

    Class codes will be the same for all breeds except a letter will be added to each class to designate the breed (as designated in the breed codes.)

    Example: Simmental Female Born March 2026 will be class ST132A.


    Cattle Classes & Breeds

  • SWINE

    Superintendents: Dan Chalfant, Josh Smith, & Kyle Spillman


    1. Only registered and crossbred pigs farrowed on or after December 1, 2025 may be shown.
    2. Weighed 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday. Animals must be registered by 8:00 p.m. NO EXCEPTIONS
    3. All animals shall be property of the exhibitor and shall so appear on the records of the respective breed association at least 30 days prior to the date of the show.
    4. Exhibitor must have registration certificates on all individual breeding animals except for crossbred gilts.
    5. Barrows will be divided in weight classes.
    6. See Animal Health under Swine.
    7. Crossbred gilts will be divided by weight. Crossbred gilts may be shown in Market or Breeding class.
    8. Limit of 2 animals per class. Limit 2 pens per exhibitor. If your animals need dividing, bring your own dividers.
    9. Because of breeding issues-No Boar Classes

    Class codes will be the same for all breeds except a letter will be added to each class to designate the breed (as designated in the breed codes.)

    Example: Duroc March Gilt will be class D117.

    Swine Classes & Breeds

  • SHEEP

    Superintendent: Richard Hallock


    1. The exhibitor must have owned the ewes and/or lambs prior to July 1. Lambs must show lamb teeth.
    2. All lambs must be registered in their respective breed association.
    3. Each exhibitor is allowed to bring 2 entries per class in the breeding classes, including crossbred ewes. No limit on the market class.
    4. All market lambs (not breeding stock) must be completely slick sheared.
    5. Market lambs will be weighed once only Saturday 9:00 a.m.
    6. Wethers and Ewes are eligible to be shown as market lambs.

    8. Wether Spring Ewe lamb class will be broken by weight.
    9. State Fair rules apply to clipping market animals. Wether-type ewes and rams must be slick sheared prior to arrival. NO CLIPPING ON FAIRGROUNDS.
    10. All Market Lambs will be shown as crossbreds.

    Class codes will be the same for all breeds except a letter will be added to each class to designate the breed (as designated in the breed codes.)

    Example: Suffolk Yearling Ewe will be class S123.

    Sheep Classes & Breeds

  • GOAT

    Superintendent: Richard Hallock


    1. All animals shown must have been owned by the exhibitor prior to Aug. 1st of the current year.
    2. Wether classes will be divided into groups by weight.
    3. Goats must meet the same health and grooming requirements and identification rules as Missouri State Fair.
    4. Animals may be hand held or led by a rope and/or halter.
    5. Each exhibitor will be limited to two entries in each class including wether class, either two purchased or two home raised or one of each.
    6. Percentages and Full Bloods will show together.
    7. No bucks over 12 months.

    Class codes will be the same for all breeds except a letter will be added to each class to designate the breed (as designated in the breed codes.)

    Example: Dairy Type Doe, 4 months old will be class D102.

    Goat Classes & Breeds

  • FOWL

    Superintendent: Diane Hamaker


    Pee Wee show to begin promptly at 11:00AM.


    1. All poultry to be exhibited must be free of clinical signs of any infections or contagious diseases.
    2. Registered, purebred, crossbred poultry and fowl of all breeds are eligible to show. All breeds show together.
    3. Each exhibitor is limited to TWO entries per class.
    4. All poultry must be in place by 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Blood tests will be done from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
    5. All poultry must be owned by April 1 of the current year with the exception of the market class exhibits.
    6. No certificate of Veterinary Inspection is needed.
    7. Exhibitors will furnish their own pens for their animals and will provide the needed care and keep of their animals.
    8. Exhibitors may leave after the show on Saturday and will be allowed to return on Sunday for the premium sale.
    9. Registration blanks must be filled out on poultry as on all other livestock. Exhibit tags must be in place on the cases.
    10. EXHIBITORS MUST CLEAN THEIR PEN AREAS BEFORE THEY ARE ALLOWED TO LEAVE. YOU WILL HAVE TO HAVE A RELEASE FORM TO LEAVE. THIS MEANS TO GET THE RELEASE, YOUR AREA MUST BE CLEAN.

    Fowl must be in place by 10:00AM.

    Senior Rabbit is a rabbit 6 months and over.

    Junior Rabbit is any rabbit under 6 months of age.

    Senior Rabbit is a rabbit 8 months and over.

    Inter. or 6/8 Rabbit is a rabbit 6 months and over, but less than 8 months of age.

    Junior Rabbit is any rabbit under 6 months of age.


    Meat Pen is 3 rabbits of the same breed, up to 10 weeks old, weighing 3.5-5.5 lbs each. Rabbits will be weighed by judge.


    1. By entering in this show you take full and complete responsibility for your health and the health of your rabbits. 
    2. Due to Covid 19 exhibitors are recommended to wear a face covering and practice social distancing while at the show. Hand sanitizer, masks will be available. 
    3. Due to RHDV2 all exhibitors and parents are urged to take all bio security measures, such as bringing a clean pair of shoes to change into and wear at the show. Keeping distance between you and other exhibitors rabbits and supplies, avoid handling other exhibitors rabbits. 
    4. All rabbits will be required to have a health certificate to show. 
    5. There will NOT be any tables provided in the show ring this year; exhibitors need to supply their own if desired. 
    6. There will be a BBQ for exhibitors in the livestock area this year provided by Farmers Bank of Northern MO. 
    7. This is an all (53) breed show, additional breed class numbers will be added as needed. 
    8. Exhibitor Shirt and Jeans are required to be eligible to show. 
    9. There will be NO ENTRY Fee this year.  Pre Entry is welcomed.
    10. Rabbit exhibitors will be limited to two entries per class per variety, maximum of 15 entries per exhibitor.
    11. Sign in and health check will begin at 2:00PM. Rabbits must be in place by 4:00PM. Showmanship will begin at 4:00PM.  Pee-Wee show (if any entries) will start at 6:00PM. Rabbits will be released at the conclusion of the show. 
    12. Upon arrival, each rabbit will go through a health check. Any animal showing evidence of any disease, open sores, or ear mites will  not be permitted to show. 
    13. Classes will be judged by ARBA standards. ARBA disqualifications, including weight, will be noted at the time of judging but the rabbit will not be dismissed from the show.

Junior Exhibitors Show

General Regulations

  1. Pens and stalls will be assigned.
  2. All animals entered for premiums in this department shall be housed and exhibited as designated by the Bethany Fair, Inc.
  3. Every precaution will be taken to protect exhibits, but neither the Bethany Fair, Inc., 4-H Clubs, or FFA Chapters will be responsible for any losses or damages to exhibits.
  4. Championship competition does not require entry.
  5. 4-H and FFA livestock will be shown together.
  6. All feed and bedding must be furnished by the exhibitor at his or her expense.
  7. All stalls must be kept clean and refuse disposed of as directed. Any stall or pen left unattended or unclean, the exhibitor will be asked to remove the livestock for the remainder of the show.
  8. Exhibitors should accompany their animals to the show and care for them. Exhibitor must present animal before the judge unless pre-approved by the superintendent. Exhibitor shirts & jeans are required any time the exhibitor is in the show ring with their animal.
  9. Only registered animals will be allowed to show in the purebred breeding classes, with the exception of Goats and Rabbits. Registration papers must be furnished.
  10. In order to have proper release papers, all pens must pass inspection by department superintendent. Any stall not passing inspection will result in loss of premium money.
  11. Please read individual regulations under each Department.
  12. Any animal removed from premises without a release from the superintendent will result in an automatic forfeiture of all show premium money. (Also forfeiture of any Harrison County Commissioners money.)
  13. Each exhibitor will be limited to two entries in each class including market; ex. Either two purchased or two home raised or one of each in the poultry, goat & beef show. Rabbit exhibitors will be limited to two entries in each class per variety.
  14. Showmanship will be at the end of each respective species show. Classes will be divided by age as follows: 15 & up Senior; 12, 13 & 14 Intermediate; 8, 9, 10 & 11 Junior. Bucket Calf exhibitors and Pee Wee sheep and swine exhibitors are not eligible. No Boars or Bulls eligible for showmanship.
  15. Definition of Home Raised Animal: Birthing mother of animal exhibited must be family owned and offspring exhibited must be born on the Parents or Grandparents farm.
  16. To assist someone in the showring, you must be an exhibitor and you must have a show shirt on.
  17. Out of state 4-H must go by MO 4-H Guidelines. This applies to all exhibitors.
  18. We are using the age of the 4-H year.

4-H Members

4-H Regulations

  1. All animals entered must be owned by exhibitor and been fed and cared for and developed as their 4-H project.
  2. In case of purebreds, registration or transfer papers must be furnished. Transfers must be made prior to June 1 of the current year. In case of grade animals and in case of partnership registration, the exhibitor must furnish a statement signed by the youth specialist attesting the ownership and to the fact the animals represent a bonafide 4-H project.
  3. Entries in the 4-H are limited to members who have passed their 8th birthday and have not passed their 19th birthday before Jan. 1st of the current year.

FFA Members

FFA Regulations

  1.  Open to all FFA Members enrolled in one of the following types of supervised agriculture education programs during the current school year.
  2. Regularly enrolled students in vocational agriculture classes in high school.
  3. Active members of an FFA Chapter, can show up to the fourth FFA National Convention after graduation
  4. Junior Project workers enrolled in the seventh or eighth grades who were reported on the preliminary supervised farming report for the current year.
  5. All animals entered in the FFA classes are required to be the bonafide property of the exhibitor and a part of his regular supervised farming program. The vocational agriculture instructor supervising the members is held responsible for the enforcement of this rule. Instructors must accompany their students to the show and be responsible for their conduct while there. No premium money will be paid to members who must be reprimanded by the fair board for non-conformance of rules.

Junior Livestock Sale

Premium Sale

Buyers please make arrangements to pay day of sale!
Premium Sale is recommended for exhibitors who have not sold in another fair sale this year.

  1. Sale open to Market Animals and Breeding Animals. Limited to 1 animal per exhibitor.
  2. Any animal to be sold has to be shown at the Bethany Fair, Inc. to be eligible.
  3. Any 4-H or FFA member who wants to enter their animal in the sale are required to make entries at time of registration.
  4. Exhibitors must be present. All steers checked for age.
  5. The Junior Livestock Sale will be a premium sale only. All exhibitors will still own their animals. The buyers will pay premium only. If exhibitors want to sell their animals, they may sign up to do this at entry time for sale. If the purchaser wants the animal, he may buy them and pay them exhibitors direct.
  6. Each owner will be responsible for their animal until turned over to the buyer.
  7. Checks will be sent out as soon as arrangements are completed with all buyers.
  8. All Exhibitors must bring their own buyer for support. Local merchants will support local exhibitors first.
  9. Animals will sell by the head.
  10. Entry for Premium Sale will be during animal registrations.
