Animal Health Requirements For Exhibition

The following is a SUMMARY, and not a reprint of the Animal Health Requirements for Exhibition. Please see the official regulation
(2CSR30-2.040) for any clarification on the following.

1. Health Certificates/General Requirements

A. All animals must have a health certificate unless specifically exempted. The health certificate must show required tests, vaccinations, etc., and individual identification of animals. Health certificates are valid for thirty (30) days. No entry permit required for animals exhibited in Missouri.
B. Animals with ringworm lesions or easily visible warts will not exhibit.
C. Sales scheduled in association with exhibitions must employ a veterinarian to examine animals and process health certificates for change of ownership.

The following requirements are for animals EXHIBITED in Missouri. Animals sold in addition to being exhibited, must meet the entry requirements of Missouri and any other state of destination.

2. Exhibition Requirements for Cattle

A. Missouri Origin Cattle:
    Cattle must be individually identified on a health certificate. Missouri origin steers are exempt from the health certificate requirement. A negative Brucellosis test within 90 days prior to exhibition is required for all bulls and non-OCV heifers 18 months of age and over, spring heifers, and heifers that have already calved (regardless of age). Beef breed OCV heifers under 24 months and dairy breed OCV heifers under 20 months of age do not need a test. No test is required for animals from certified Brucellosis - free herds, provided that current certified herd number and test date are shown on health certificate. No TB test is required for Missouri cattle. Cattle from scabies quarantined area or herd cannot exhibit.
B. Out Of State Cattle Exhibited in Missouri:
    Cattle must have a health certificate showing individual identification. No TB test is required for cattle imported into Missouri for exhibition only. Cattle from a scabies quarantined area or herd cannot exhibit.
C. Cattle from Brucellosis States: No brucellosis test required.
D. Cattle from Brucellosis Class A States:
    A negative Brucellosis test within 90 days prior to exhibition is required for all bulls and non-OCV heifers 18 months of age and over, spring heifers, and heifers that have already calved (regardless of age). Beef breed OCV heifers under 24 months and dairy breed OCV heifers under 20 months of age do not need a test. No test is required for animals from certified Brucellosis - free herds, provided the current certified herd number and test date are shown on the health certificate.
E. Cattle from Michigan: A negative Tuberculosis test (TB) within 30 days prior to exhibition is required.

3. Exhibition Requirements for Swine

A. Swine must have a health certificate showing individual ear tag or ear notch (if the ear notching has been recorded in the book of record of a pure bred registry assoc.) All breeding stock, including pure bred and cross bred barrows and gilts, will be required to have recognizable ear notches in both ears, and farrowing date. No fresh or scabby notches will be accepted.
B. Brucellosis: Breeding swine six (6) months of age and over must have a negative test within sixty (60) days prior to exhibition, or originate from a validated Brucellosis-free herd (current herd number and test date must be shown on health certificate).
C. Pseudo Rabies: Swine must have a negative test within sixty (60) days prior to exhibition, or originate from a qualified Pseudo rabies-free herd (current herd number and test date must be shown on health certificate).
D. All swine at weigh-ins for show competition must originate from a qualified Pseudo rabies-free herd or be tested within 60 days prior to exhibition.

NOTE: Market class swine must originate from a Level III (or above) status in the Pork Producers Quality Assurance Program. 

4. Exhibition Requirements for Sheep

A. Sheep must have no signs of infectious or contagious disease. All sheep must be identified and listed on a health certificate. Sheep from a scabies quarantined area must be treated by an officially approved method within 10 days prior to exhibition and must obtain a permit from the state veterinarian 573-751-4359.
